About the Apprenticeship Program

Water Access Rwanda is offering an exciting opportunity for young Rwandans who are passionate about data, digital systems, and community development.

The Data Entry Apprentice position is an entry-level, paid apprenticeship designed for individuals who want to build a strong foundation in data management and field survey operations.

Role Overview

As a Data Entry Apprentice, you will be part of the team that collects, manages, and secures data used in improving water delivery systems. You will work both in the office and the field, ensuring every piece of information gathered from customers and communities is accurate, organized, and useful.

This is not just about typing numbers — it’s about being a key player in data-driven decision-making that helps bring safe water to thousands of people.

Key Learning Areas

During your apprenticeship, you will gain practical experience in the following areas:

1. Accurate Data Entry

  • Learn how to input and manage data without errors.
  • Practice verifying and cross-checking information from multiple sources.

2. Field Surveys

  • Participate in community fieldwork to collect accurate, first-hand data.

Main Responsibilities

As a Data Entry Apprentice, your duties will include:

  • Entering accurate and verified data into company databases.
  • Conducting and managing customer and field surveys.
  • Validating collected data for consistency and completeness.
  • Supporting the preparation of weekly and monthly reports.
  • Performing basic data analysis to identify patterns and anomalies.
  • Maintaining organized documentation and records.
  • Upholding data confidentiality and ethical work practices.
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure smooth data flow.
  • Handling paperwork, forms, and records efficiently.

You’ll report directly to the Data Management Team Leader or the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, depending on the project.

Required Qualifications

You don’t need prior work experience — this apprenticeship is designed to train you. However, you must show commitment, discipline, and a willingness to learn quickly.

Education:

  • Minimum: High School Diploma (A-Level)
  • Preferred: Computer studies, ICT, or data management coursework

Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or any data tool.
  • Fast and accurate typing ability (a must).
  • Ability to use tablets, mobile survey tools, and computers efficiently.
  • Basic understanding of databases and record management.

Language Skills:

  • Proficient in English and Kinyarwanda (spoken and written).
  • French or Swahili knowledge is an added advantage.

Soft Skills and Attributes

To succeed in this role, you should have:

Work Environment

This is a hybrid role, combining both office-based and field-based assignments.

You’ll spend time at Water Access Rwanda’s headquarters in Kigali, working with digital data tools, and also travel to rural areas to collect and validate data from communities.
